That which you danced before being born and will dance after you die.
BUTOH INNATO
AULA NOSTRA
Aula Nostra —innate butoh training— was founded in 2019 by Matilde J. Ciria and Jonathan Martineau in Madrid. The training arises from the confluence of Matilde’s ni.butoh and Jonathan’s Art of Being Born, creating a unique methodology that seeks to become dance through thought in movement.
The pieces of Aula Nostra are born from the training process: they are not the result of a commission or an external production, but the distillation of months of collective research. What you see is what happens when a group of people learn to dance together without yet knowing where they are going.
SEASON 2020/21
2021-2022 — The year Aula Nostra found its voice. The questions took flight in the form of dance.

End-of-year showing
June 2022 · Teatro Pradillo, Madrid
Synopsis
Serenity was found hanged from the branch of a speech.
Hope is in therapy with a wretch.
Happiness is high and no longer knows where it lives.
Freedom was abducted by some blue light.
Enlightenment suffers from insomnia.
Truth lives in exile. There is no Community that does not taste of comfortable suicide.
Dignity was excommunicated by a legion of vampires with whitened teeth.
And yet here we remain, our souls overcome by the rush of time escaping down the drain. All the hurry, all the bustle, our kilometre-long tongues that never find the edge of the outside, that never stop speaking of their nostalgia for silence — all the noise and all the haste fail to free us from the feeling of being stuck. There is nowhere to hold on and nowhere to let oneself fall. There is no flight and no ground. There are horizontal vertigos.
And yet here we are, with the need to plant ourselves in a world to which we do not entirely belong. Does the fact that we have invented myths not prove that we are poetry in essence? How is it possible to dream without remembering paradise, without sensing hell? Our existence resembles the vertigo of an angel. The moment has come to celebrate a great celestial rebellion.

Synopsis
You are not special. No one is.
Within every mind vibrates the original nobody.
It is healthy to distrust people who want to convince you that you are special — ticks about to sink their teeth into you.
Nobody is special and nobody is in every body.
Nobody says goodbye to you.

Synopsis
One early morning I woke up in another life. A life I let pass a decade ago. The most surprising thing is that it was easier to recognise myself in my parallel life than in this one, where I write trembling.
I was told I had to forgive my past. Since then I am gnawed by the guilt of not knowing how. What if I were you? I did not choose myself. Nor does the child choose the uproar out of which he is forced to understand himself as a subject.
Graceless existences glancing sidelong at de-chosen lives that flicker. De-chosen lives that shine in the night where I am neither child, nor subject, nor responsible, nor conscious, nor guilty, nor I. In the night where I am barely alive, the dreams of others make me shudder.
A museum where borders blur and art seeps to the back of your eyes. One dance, six bodies, six solos and gardens of dreams.
