That which you danced before being born and will dance after you die.

BUTOH INNATO

AULA NOSTRA

Aula Nostra —innate butoh training— was founded in 2019 by Matilde J. Ciria and Jonathan Martineau in Madrid. The training arises from the confluence of Matilde’s ni.butoh and Jonathan’s Art of Being Born, creating a unique methodology that seeks to become dance through thought in movement.

The pieces of Aula Nostra are born from the training process: they are not the result of a commission or an external production, but the distillation of months of collective research. What you see is what happens when a group of people learn to dance together without yet knowing where they are going.

SEASON 2020/21

2022-2023The year of maturity. Three proposals that do not resemble one another and that could only have been born from the same process.

DE FUGAS Y OTROS ÓRGANOS

End-of-year showing

May 2023 · Scenic journey between the mountain and the theatre, Madrid

Synopsis

Innate is being. Blessed be my eyes and the sacristy of my sorrows. Hear my song cast the citizenry over the cliff. Flee the citadels governed by tyrants and the tyranny of the crowd. Fugue we are. All creation a fugue from fixation and appropriation. There is no author. No authenticity. No creator.

My heart fugues: love. My love fugues: dance.
My brain fugues: thinking. My thought fugues: poetry.
My guts fugue: creating. My creation fugues: being born.
My skin fugues: existing. My existence fugues: silence.

NO ES PAÍS PARA PIES

Second showing · Open-air site-specific

March 2023 · Open-air theatre of the Casa de Campo, Madrid

Synopsis

Show me a path with the air of an escape.
Take me to a stage with the profile of a threshold.
Sing me a poem that clears the sad clouds watering my routine.
I ask only for a horizon to channel my hope toward, so it stops squeezing my throat.
I have feet. I only long for a little dirt in which to take genuine steps.
Promise me an escape with the countenance of a path.
