«We are puppets that dream of cutting their own strings. Liberation is not in cutting them: it is in following them to the end.»

Matilde J Ciria

CONCEPT

Deux Linum begins from an image: we are puppets moved by strings. According to different beliefs, those strings are pulled by gods, instincts, reason or memory. In this piece the puppets will be moved by all the strings at once: gods, demons, passions, instincts, morality, reason, ghosts, traumas.

Two bodies improvise together on this material with no prior script. Matilde J. Ciria and Nataliya Andru meet on stage and from that encounter build the piece in the moment. So many strings pulling in so many directions that the body fragments into a multitude of puppets. Puppets so inhuman they can follow the very strings of matter and of the cosmos.

Part of the Ciclo Danza Cruda.

GUEST ARTISTS

Nataliya Andru: A dancer and choreographer who inhabits the crossroads between butoh, physical theatre and contemporary dance with a presence that asks no permission.

The utopia: the puppet itself fragments more and more, until it is only strings.

Deux Linum is the unrepeatable result of two bodies that listen to each other in real time and build, without a score, a common language that is born and dies in that single performance.

ON IMPROVISATION

This piece does not exist before it begins. There is no score, no rehearsal, no possible repetition. What happens on stage is born from the real encounter between the artists in that specific space and moment — from mutual listening, from shared risk, from the presence of an audience that is also part of what happens. Each performance is a unique event that cannot be reproduced. What you see tonight has not existed before and will not exist afterward.
