«Wandering shadows in a soulless world. »
Matilde J Ciria
CONCEPT
Forsaken Dreams is a butoh piece about what remains when dreams are abandoned. It was a painful dream, an unreachable dream, an exhausting dream. Abandonment is the only escape when there is no strength left to continue. When the dream is not reached but consumes the soul until only a shadow of what one was — or could have been — remains. The wandering shadows seek nothing. They no longer remember what they were seeking.
The space of the Kunsthaus Rhenania — a building with history, with layers, with artists’ studios that have left their traces — becomes the perfect territory for these shadows. A building built of dreams in a society losing the ability to dream.
ROOM SERVICE
About Room Service: A scenic project founded in Cologne (Germany) in 2004 by Gregor Weber. Each edition takes over the Kunsthaus Rhenania with 10–12 simultaneous 8-minute performances in different rooms. The audience moves through the building choosing which doors to open. In recent editions, Matilde J. Ciria directs the ni.butoh workshop held before the event, whose participants join as performers, set designers, costume makers…
Each piece is performed 48 times during the event.
