«We all live in dreams and everything we think is reality — money, housing, politics — for me it’s also a dream.»

Armin Heinemann

CONCEPT

Sueños is a danced theatre that does what no one expected: putting tango and butoh into dialogue. Two languages that seem incompatible — tango all skin, speed and the vertigo of the couple; butoh born of pain and silence, generating movement from the unconscious — and which, in Armin Heinemann’s hands, find their alchemy.

The piece tells a love triangle where the «fauns» reveal the emotions the characters cannot express directly. Butoh acts as a kind of essential filter of the human being, giving body to the invisible energies flowing between the different characters. A white, tender shadow performing the breath and the emotion that precedes the gesture.

The show moves between impulse and restraint, between flesh that lets itself go and the rawness of a body that controls every muscle in movements that escape reason. The soundtrack interweaves classic and modern tangos with music by Chopin, Gluck and Bach. The word, through the poetry of a voice-over, completes the oneiric territory.

It was performed in a single show at the Palacio de Congresos of Santa Eulària, Ibiza — a one-night ritual, deliberately unrepeatable.

ABOUT ARMIN HEINEMANN

Armin Heinemann is a scenic creator, designer and artistic director of German origin based in Ibiza. Founder of the historic Ibiza Opera Festival and co-director of Paula’s Ibiza alongside Stuart Rudnick. Always unclassifiable, always faithful to a search that goes beyond the aesthetic.

Tango provides the choreography of the relationship: two, three, four bodies that seek, measure and challenge one another. Butoh introduces the fracture, the crack through which pure, almost metaphysical emotion seeps.

«Matilde Javier Ciria introduces a mysterious figure, like a white, tender shadow, performing the breath and the emotion that precedes the gesture.»

«A sensory and hypnotic experience where each movement seems to recall that to dance is also to think with the body.»
