“The repainted man in the dark suit perhaps symbolizes a kind of creation ceremony,
here and now, a daring virtual ceremony; Dor’s art is an outburst of shamelessness
that defies common institutional art
.”

Doron Pollak, curator, International Artists Museum

ORIGINS

Suit.Case is born from the encounter between dance and ritual, between the suit and paint, between the social and the primal. This project arose from a creative confluence in which I immersed myself alongside other multidisciplinary artists (Athos, Monma Mingot, Álvaro Hurtado, Guillem Burnat) under the guidance of Shahar Dor, bringing my experience in physical theatre, butoh and clown.

As part of this work, my artistic path intertwined with the project, connecting my research on the butoh body with the exploration of the suit’s meaning as a social construction. This encounter marked a turning point in my artistic development, allowing me to apply, in a new context, my inquiries into the dissolution of identity and the transformation of the scenic body.

The structure of the piece combines meticulously choreographed individual performances. In my case, this journey explores the gradual dissolution of the layers of identity, seeking that space where identity dissolves to allow a more essential truth to emerge.

My participation went beyond mere performance, also taking on the role of technical director, creating a device that would allow the ritual experience without obstructing scenic movement.

Production was distributed among all the members of the company, taking on specific responsibilities that made it possible to materialize this scenic ceremony where multiple artistic languages converged.

FREEDOM?

The ceremony acquires meaning when there is a tribe; the tribe manifests when the ceremony summons the collective body. As part of this scenic ritual, my contribution focused on bringing my research to this shared context.

Suit.case is a cry for freedom; freedom from the fear that keeps us from being who we are. This journey invites us to cross the multiple layers of imposed identity, to dance in that barren place where, even while being, you are not. In that place, marked by the absence of yourself, life is found in its most overwhelming exuberance, without judgements or traumas.
