this edition, in Cologne

Three days at the Tanzfaktur, Studio 5, in the Deutz district. We begin on Friday evening and continue Saturday and Sunday from morning to late afternoon. The workshop is taught in English.

Butoh invites us to return again and again to the simplest questions of existence, and to develop infinite possibilities out of the experience of the body. It is a search for the essence of movement and for the authenticity of each being in the way it communicates, with the world and with itself. The experience of the dancing body stands above any explanation of that experience, and it can only be born of a deep love for life.

what we will work on

• psychophysical training
• the relationship of the body with itself, with its surroundings and with other bodies
• improvisations to deepen the sensing imagination
• improvisations with an audience, to apply what we have practised

This workshop is suitable for all bodies.

beyond the workshop

If this is not your first workshop with me, you can be considered for the Room Service performance, from 12 to 15 November. This year the door is open only to those who already have some ground behind them: if you are starting here, the performance is not for this time. The final decision is made before the workshop ends.

For those who get in, there are compulsory rehearsals from 9 to 11 November, afternoon into evening. This is what bzzzzzzzzzzzz, last year’s piece, looked like.
