“artistic manifestation is an unstoppable need”

ORIGIN

In June 2020, just out of lockdown, the scenic ritual was more necessary than ever, but there were no spaces in the city where we could present our scenic research and concerns. The event Obscena, naturaleza insólita, mountain trails with dance pieces along the way, became a scenic oasis. Evolución Especular, the hypothetical twilight of a utopia is a work born in this oasis, in contact with the audience, creating itself breath by breath.

The first 3 poetic acts of Evolución Especular, small chapters of 6-9 minutes, were born in La Pedriza in June 2020. The creation process was put on stand-by to take care of family and finances. And again, in July 2021, taking advantage of the next edition of Obscena, I went deeper into the work created, and a new chapter of the piece also appeared.

Also in 2021 I tried a small version in urban space for the event The Place. In this case it became a 15-minute scenic experience compacting several of the chapters created for nature.

In October 2021 I presented the first mid-format stage version, 35 minutes, where I could join all the parts that had been born previously and glimpse the form this scenic creature will take in its long version. This format was repeated at the Alma Negra Orígenes Festival, in Costa Rica, before giving birth to a 50-minute version on a conventional stage.

During the creation process, drawn out over time, I have rediscovered many of its facets and edges. Scenes that disappeared have returned and want to reveal themselves under the darkness of an overhead light. It is ready to take its final form on stage.

REVELATION OF THE PRISON BODY

Evolución Especular explores the paradox of the prison-body turned into a territory of revelation during the planetary macro-event of lockdown. The work is built on the premise that human society, as an emergent individual entity, needed that moment of forced introspection transcending personal emotional need.

With no interest in speaking specifically about this, or about the pandemic. The process of social isolation has been a catalyst for a process of deepening into each person’s selfhood and of revealing hidden realities. The body, for a brief period of time, was the prison from which to observe reality. During this period, futures were laid out that were undreamable a few months earlier. Some of these futures took advantage of the extraordinary conditions to generate opportunities. Other futures were far from promising, where the misery accumulated over years began to ooze out in the stillness.

These kinds of processes are usually faced individually, on different occasions, throughout life, especially in moments of a need for change. In this case it was not the result of an emotional need but of a social obligation. Human society itself, as an emergent individual entity, surrendered to stillness and silence.

I do not know the other and I am unaware of the behavior of my own body.
Out of my dreams
I wake between sheets
And I am already gone

If only you could touch my hand for me.
Perplexed I ignore
That strange buzzing,
Silence I hear

When the alarm sounds I remind you that I have returned.
A quiet world
In small fragments
You decompose

And this solo solo solo I play for the joy of a piano.

The subject has awakened.
He does not recognize the place he is in, he does not remember how he got there.
The subject wants to flee, desperately.
The odds of the subject losing his life increase. The rope still holds.

·Part two: Mystery

If the virus infects itself, does it reproduce or does it kill itself?
It is still unclear whether it began to die before or after seeing itself reflected.
A trap. It had to be a trap that the other, the one who watches, had set for it while it searched.
Vampires live in their world, in the world of the other, the one who watches; here we are only shadows.
