«Every dream worth living began as an impossible tale.»
Matilde J Ciria
CONCEPT
Mirabilis is an ode in the key of butoh to all the dreams that have been tales and to all the tales that have been dreams.
The starting point is a children’s tale invented by a mother to put her child to sleep: a plump yellow chick who every day climbs up to the dovecote, jumps, and crashes into the ground. Until one day he does not crash.
Matilde J. Ciria and Jonathan Martineau improvise together on this material. Two bodies, two languages, two ways of inhabiting the imaginary. What is born between them on stage cannot be repeated — it is unique, like all dreams that are never told the same way twice.
Part of the Ciclo Danza Cruda.
GUEST ARTISTS
Movement — Jonathan Martineau: Philosopher, dancer and pedagogue, co-founder of Aula Nostra and Alma Negra; he researches the body as a space where thought is born before becoming an idea.

SYNOPSIS
“Once upon a time there was a chick, a plump yellow chick. He watched other birds cross the firmament in the migration seasons, dreaming in wonder of the landscapes they would find along the way.
Every day he climbed to the top of the dovecote. Every day he jumped. Every day he crashed into the ground.
One day he did not crash. One day he took off and never landed again.
That day is still today.”
Mirabilis is an ode to all the dreamers who finally took flight.
ON IMPROVISATION
This piece does not exist before it begins. There is no score, no rehearsal, no possible repetition. What happens on stage is born from the real encounter between the artists in that specific space and moment — from mutual listening, from shared risk, from the presence of an audience that is also part of what happens. Each performance is a unique event that cannot be reproduced. What you see tonight has not existed before and will not exist afterward.
